Understanding the Development of Benign Prostate Enlargement (BPE) and Comprehensive Treatment

Updated: Sep 14, 2023

Benign Prostate Enlargement (BPE), medically known as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), is a condition that gradually develops in men as they age. It occurs when the prostate gland, a walnut-sized organ that encircles the urethra, enlarges in a non-cancerous manner. To better comprehend how BPE develops and explore natural dietary and lifestyle advice for its management, let's delve deeper into the condition.

Development of BPE:

The exact cause of BPE isn't fully understood, but hormonal changes and age-related factors play a significant role. Testosterone, the primary male sex hormone, is converted to dihydrotestosterone (DHT) in the prostate gland. Over time, DHT can stimulate the growth of prostate cells, leading to an enlarged gland. This enlargement can constrict the urethra, causing various urinary symptoms:

Frequent Urination: The increased size of the prostate can press against the bladder, leading to a frequent urge to urinate.

As we age the incidence of BPH increases dramatically from the age of 50-60 which is the time of life we should be supporting our prostate. Brew 2 daily will not only prevent the enlarging of the prostate but reduce any swelling which may have occurred.

Symptoms of BPH

Difficulty Initiating Urination: A larger prostate can obstruct the flow of urine, making it challenging to start urination.

Weak Urinary Stream: An enlarged prostate can reduce the force of the urinary stream.

Incomplete Emptying: Some urine may remain in the bladder after urination due to the prostate's pressure on the urethra.

Now, let's explore natural dietary and lifestyle advice that can help manage BPE:

Dietary Recommendations:

Eat a Balanced Diet: Consume a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats. High-fiber foods can promote regular bowel movements, reducing pressure on the prostate.

Fatty Fish: Incorporate fatty fish like salmon, mackerel, and trout into your diet. These are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which have anti-inflammatory properties and may benefit prostate health.

Tomatoes: Tomatoes contain lycopene, a powerful antioxidant linked to prostate health. Cooked or processed tomatoes may provide more readily available lycopene.

Green Tea: Green tea is rich in antioxidants and may help reduce prostate inflammation.

Water: Stay well-hydrated by drinking plenty of water. Proper hydration can aid in urinary flow and overall prostate comfort.

Lifestyle Advice:

Regular Exercise: Engage in regular physical activity, including aerobic exercises and strength training. Exercise can help manage weight and improve overall health.

Kegel Exercises: Pelvic floor exercises, known as Kegel exercises, can help strengthen the muscles that control urination.

Stress Management: Chronic stress can exacerbate BPE symptoms. Practice relaxation techniques such as meditation, yoga, or deep breathing exercises.

Limit Alcohol and Caffeine: Both alcohol and caffeine can irritate the bladder and worsen urinary symptoms. Reducing their consumption may provide relief.

Maintain a Healthy Weight: Achieving and maintaining a healthy weight can help alleviate pressure on the prostate and improve overall well-being.

Avoid sitting for extended periods, as this can worsen urinary symptoms. Take breaks to stand and stretch.

Hydration Timing: Limit fluid intake in the evening to reduce nighttime urination.

Natural Supplements and Remedies:

In addition to dietary and lifestyle changes, certain natural supplements can be beneficial:

Saw Palmetto: Saw palmetto is a popular herbal remedy for BPE and is believed to reduce urinary symptoms.

Nettle Leaf: Nettle leaf supplements may help reduce inflammation and promote prostate health.

Zinc: Adequate zinc intake is essential for prostate health. Consider zinc supplements if you have a deficiency.

Pomegranate has gained attention for its potential benefits for prostate health, primarily due to its high content of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds.

Horsetail extract is for the prostate due to its potential anti-inflammatory and diuretic properties.

Grapeseed extract may support prostate health due to its antioxidant properties and potential to reduce inflammation.

Hibiscus extract has been shown beneficial for the prostate due to its potential anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects

Centella Asiatic also known as gotu kola has many benefits however has been shown to inhibit the growth of prostate cancer cells and reduce swelling in the prostate. Another nice addition is it is great for memory.
